Guibert’s General Essay on Tactics: 137 (History of Warfare)
Jonathan Abel (ed.)
Publisher: BRILL (8 Dec. 2021)
Hardcover: 336 pages
ISBN-13: 9789004473157
Guibert’s General Essay on Tactics, here translated into English for the first time since the 1780s, laid the foundation for the success of French armies of the Revolutionary and Napoleonic eras, as well as for modern doctrine and operational-level warfare.
I'm not going to buy it, but all translations are not equal. I don't know about the two versions you are referring to, but older translations often tend to be very "loose."
Tom & Co.,
There are 2x copies of Guibert's Essay 'IN ENGLISH' right here in the USA. One copy is at West Point Library and the other is at the US Army War College. About 15+ years ago, I had the latter library make me a photostat copy of it for around $30-50.
I DON'T KNOW, if they are still willing to do that Today!
REF: H-K's comment above, I agree with him in that Guibert spends a great deal of time talking about everything else under the sun, (to include the price of Tea in China), before parting with the 'Pearls of Wisdom' that you are actually interested in. 😁

I have those as pdf downloads well over 600 pages, but I seemingly confused this above book with Guibert Father of Napoleon's Grande Armée where I bought a kindle edition - published in 2016
Hans-Karl,
Your comment puzzles me. Guibert's Essai General isn't about his life. It is about tactics. Perhaps your comment relates to your view of Guibert and not the book.
can't say I'll be buying the translation; not at $175+
But I do appreciate the initial comment making me aware of the book.
in my view quite a misnomer, it is more about his life, and how to advance ones career by important women and attending their salons
