The result of 20 years of work, this work systematically analyzes the Grande Armée: the first part describes in detail the military tool organized to implement the principles of action adopted by the Emperor at the operational and tactical levels. The study ranges from command structures to elementary units, passing through maneuver counters (army corps and divisions) and specialized elements (cavalry reserve, grand park). The second part is made up of thematic sheets (effects of fire, organization of the various weapons, logistics, organization charts, etc.) combining summary paragraphs and detailed figures. A particular effort to present the logic of interdependence and coherence between the various entities making up the Grande Armée makes it possible to offer a kind of handbook of Napoleonic forces. Voluntarily accessible to laymen of the military thing, the work aims to fill a gap in historical studies in this field.
