Good Day,
looking at some elements for artillery and massed artillery, i tried to get the relevant parts in FAVE "Études sur le passé et l'avenir de l'artillerie". I provide hereafter some links to the six volumes available in Goggle Books; The question i have is about the general plan of the books, noting that in Livre 2 (Book n°2) and chapter II, there is the 6th Period : 1799-1815
the orinal text from volume 1 general plan is noted also hereafter. I was unable to locate that part. Volume 5 has the system An XI, but not those elements... does someone knows in which volume that chapter two is located ?!
"CHAPITRE II - Sixième période, de 1789 à 1815.
Ordonnance et armement des troupes.—Relation des trois armes.- Supériorité de l'artillerie à cheval.- Emploi de l'artillerie à pied. -- Influence de l'empereur

Good day Ian,
You are right, Volume 1 is missing the second part (book 2) and what i'm looking for is in that second book. I also tried archive.org without success ! fwiw, there is a good review of the various volumes content in LSM > https://books.google.fr/books?id=pIFlAAAAcAAJ&pg=PA534&lpg=PA534&dq=Études+sur+le+passé+et+l%27avenir+de+de+l%27artillerie+/+par+le+prince+Napoléon-Louis+Bonaparte&source=bl&ots=JCGIf-N0AN&sig=ACfU3U3u6-uOvYoBmEDMQQHHG1P7ggfAfQ&hl=fr&sa=X&ved=2ahUKEwjow9m4x_rvAhUjgP0HHRJ3A2A4ChDoATAQegQIDhAD#v=onepage&q=Études%20sur%20le%20passé%20et%20l'avenir%20de%20de%20l'artillerie%20%2F%20par%20le%20prince%20Napoléon-Louis%20Bonaparte&f=false
thanks again for your help,
best regards
Volumes. 1 and 2 (1846-51) by Louis Napoléon Bonaparte.
Volumes. 3-6 (1862-71) continued by General Favé with subtitle: Histoire des progrès de l'artillerie.
| HathiTrust Digital Library
Looking at Volumes 3 to 6 - the Chapter numbers of these volumes run consecutively from volume to volume, so I would assume they are complete.
Clearly Volumes 1 & 2 are missing their 2nd parts (certainly appear untraceable online).
However two useful Volumes by Fave:

Eric is crystal clear about what he is looking for.
Either you can help him or you cannot, I alas cannot.
I found material in Volumes III, IV, and V but you have to look through them to find what you are specifically looking for.
It is strange that at all web sites I checked it is always the same volumes and those books of them are missing.
Hopefully one of those readers of this board can at least confirm that they exist - after all there are some trained historians and librarians who should find those missing books.
HK,
Plan is for the books content : Book 1 / volume 1 / chapter 1 / etc. (not plate). the picture of the relevant chapter .. perhaps Vox can help us ! ; )
OK seems that most volumes have two books and those are missing - on gallica
which provides only an outline - I have difficulties to find on Gallica - other volumes.
Ok had again a look at tome 1er - there should be a livre deux - which would contain the for us most interesting chapter, but where is it?
I had a online look at well, it is the usual confusing thing, it also seems that there exist editions which unify book I and II - but for the 4th volume, I can only find book 2 - it starts with chapter X - so I assume that chapter 1 - 9 are in the book I (or is volume 3 book I)???
Like the download you give for volume one - has no ?Plan? what do you mean by plan? Plate, content, metiers for elements of 1799 - 1815
Good Day Hans-Karl,
you might be right, same analysis from what's available in Google Books, each volume seems to have two parts, but after extensives attempts, i could not find say part two for each volume/book ... so my question. Gallica provided nothing more on a first level search, except a book with a synthetic approach to the whole "work" by Du Parq, ie a volume about just 80 pages .. i'm after some "clear" or unambiguous references about reserves for a single battery and reserves in the context of massed batteries ... might be in the range of 25%-33% but i wanted to establish things on that matter ..
The striking point is that those elements for 1799-1815 are clearly noted in the volume 1 plan.. perhaps Google books has not all the books digitized ?
Thanks for your answer, : )
With my Best regards
It is a bit confusing, at least to me, it seems that some volumes have two parts, lie tome Ier und 2nd.
So there should be more than 6 volumes available?
