This volume contains all of the Napoleonic plates that were first issued individually. It is a very helpful resource for French uniforms-accurate, highly detailed, and meticulously researched. It is helpful to collect the plates individually as they are in a larger format, but sometimes they are difficult to find.

I have a complete set of the Napoleonic plates which took me about ten years to compile. I prefer them to the book.

The is Rousselot's master work condensed into one volume. Originally 106 uniform plates realized between 1940 and 1970 with some additions. When they say highly detailed and meticulously researched, that is exactly what they mean. The master combed every source he could find for uniform details and exceptions. The plates have been reduced in size and landscaped to fit the book's format, but they are still quite beautiful to behold and the colors, although not up to the standards of the original inks, are still quite good. This by the way, is the only way possible today to obtain a complete set of the plates. At around $200 American this book is not cheap, but like Detaille's L' Armee Francaise, if you are into it, you have got to have it. 391 pages, Andrea Press, Paris.
