hello dont know if anyone can help me or not .
but my ancestor John McKennen (various spelling ) allegedly died in the Chelsea Hospital in 1810 at the age of 24 , but so far I have been unable to confirm that !
the information was obtained from the gravestone of his daughter (Helen McKennen Findlay) it also mentions her mother , Johns wife as Isabella Black McKennen who died in 1862 aged 77 and born in Buteshire Scotland circa 1785 !
I am very interested in finding out about his military past and of course where he came from !
any help would be appreciated !
regards
Elaine
Hi Elaine. You may want to check if he was an ‘in pensioner’ or ‘out pensioner’. An out pensioner meant they were in receipt of payments, so could have died anywhere.
thank you tomholmberg I have looked there , but was hoping to find informtion online !
David will take a look at him thank you
The Mormon site has some info on the records https://www.familysearch.org/wiki/en/Kilbride,_Buteshire,_Scotland_Genealogy
There is a Lachlan Black born in Kilbride in 1760 on ancestry.co.uk

Welcome Elaine,
Do you have a unit for John McKennen? With that, it may be possible to track down his enlistment record at the National Archives. My understanding is that Chelsea hospital itself kept at least fairly detailed records. Andrew Cormack at the Society for Army Historical Research is the expert on those records, so if you haven't contacted him already, he may be able to help.
Good luck with the search!
