In Wellington's Army who was responsible for the supply of ammunition?

Returning to Bob’s original question though, whilst there is quite a lot of information about Wellington’s headquarters, relatively little is known about staff work at the Brigade or Divisional level, let alone logistical or supply issues. Where a Brigade Major, AQMG or AAG left an account, it often centred on the fighting, not the tedious world of staff work. Of course, it is worth noting that there was no ‘system’ as such, no staff college course or central doctrine. Much of it therefore was evolved custom and practice, so if going unrecorded remains particularly elusive. Ordnance should be remembered was a completely separate organisation from the army. The Board of Ordnance department was second only in size to HM Treasury, and until 1828 the Master General of the Ordnance was routinely a cabinet post. Until researching this question I had not realised however that the reach of the Field Train was down to divisional level, with a Conductor or Clerk of Stores embedded. Published memoirs from Commissaries and others in the supply chain are thin on the ground. If they exist at all, I presume they would be in family or private hands if not a dusty archive. Without them though, it would be very dangerous to presume our modern reporting and accounting systems (based as they are on a largely German model) were the ‘norm’.
