Can anybody recommend me a good book on the Royal Navy 1792-1815, especially on their different ship / boat types, as ships of the line, frigates, sloops, briggs, gunboats, flat boats, transports (lent from civil owners, too?), etc.?
I am just reading Gordon's book on "The Grand Expedition ... 1809", when ca. 600 ships were used (incl. ~300 transports). The RN ships / boats consisted of every description, but I have difficulties to understand their different specifications and functions...
( https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rating_system_of_the_Royal_Navy is a good entry, but I am looking for more details.)
Thanks in advance & best regards, Thomas
